You’ve probably heard or read something in the news about how Health and Human Services (HHS) came out with their own mandate requiring insurance plan coverage of contraception (including the morning after pill) by religious groups. Only the actual church is exempt, but schools, hospitals, and other community offerings from any church are not. It is the Catholics that have taken the lead on this, but it’s just as important that all religions support this petition. If this mandate is to stand, then this administration has crossed the line of their proclaimed separation of church and state.
Please visit the following link to the petition for rescinding this mandate: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/rescind-hhs-dept-mandate-requiring-catholic-employers-provide-contraceptivesabortifacients-their/lBxr7SdP#thank-you=p
Yes, you have to register, but only your name and email (and if you file your taxes electronically they already have more information than that). Even though this petition already has enough signatures to get noticed, there is a battling petition in support of HHS. So far this rescinding petition is ahead almost 2 to 1 (at the time of this posting), but they still have until the end of February…and it’s time to make our voices heard! The idea is to overwhelm, then they will have no options.
I’ve already signed, and I ask that you sign and pass this along to as many people you know who also oppose this encroachment upon “the free exercise thereof.” This isn’t only about contraception.
Amendments to the Constitution, Article I: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. [Nope, I see nothing in here, nor in any other amendment, about our RIGHT to contraception at the expense of anyone else; the use of which is generally based upon a CHOICE we make based upon other CHOICES in our lives]
